The women ran the plantation over 60 years, using slave labor. Laura Plantation was originally called l’habitation Duparc, after Guillaume Duparc (1752-1808), the French-born patriot of the American Revolution, who is the progenitor of the four successive generations of Duparcs and Locouls who owned Laura until 1891.
